The Minnesota Vikings signed Dalvin Cook to a five-year, $63 million extension on Saturday a day before the team’s season kicks off hosting the Green Bay Packers, according to several media reports.
The Pro Bowl running back would make a guarantee $28.2 million with a $15.5 signing bonus, according to ESPN.
The Vikings were considering putting a franchise tag on Cook but instead opted to give the running back a major payday to signal a long-term commitment.
Cook, 25, became the latest star running back to sign a massive extension before the start of 2020, joining Joe Mixon (Cincinnati Bengals), Kareem Hunt (Cleveland Browns) and Alvin Kamara (New Orleans Saints).
Cook was drafted from Florida State by Minnesota in the second round of the 2017 draft and ran for 1,135 yards last season.
